Do you care for an older person?
This can be your spouse or partner, mother or father, friend or neighbour. You may help for one or two hours a week or be on call twenty four hours a day. You provide a valuable service and may need to feel supported at times.
Here are some organisations, which you may find useful.
Carers National Association. Provide advice and support on all aspects of caring. Telephone 0808 808 7777.
Crossroads Scheme, Newbury and District. A charity providing a break for carers by supplying paid, trained carer attendants to look after their dependant-of any agewith physical or mental health difficulties, in their own homes for a few hours, free to the families. Telephone 01635 30008
Citizens Advice Bureau have a carers service which offers information advice and support on a variety of relevant topics. Telephone 01635 864245.
Alzheimer's Society - West Berkshire Branch - aims to provide emotional support, information and practical help to carers of people with dementia. Telephone 01488 658453.
Parkinson's Disease Society has two paid welfare workers and hopes to provide some respite care for carers.
Carers and Disabled Childrens Act 2001.
This Act builds upon the Carers Recognition and Services Act 1995 and came into force on 1st April 2001. From that date, carers are entitled to an assessment of their needs in their own right.
